Environmental mega-problems such as those
created by the continual use of plastic shopping bags are well
know.
Now a new environmental spectre has
surfaced and we need to recognise it.
"A huge environmental problem in
the USA has been created because of the vast amounts of
electronic products that are constantly being thrown away.
This problem has caused a new levy to be
added to the sale all new electronic products to cover the cost
of disposal or recycling", says Steve Lucas of the
Armidale Computer Library (Phone
02 6771 5252)
He also said," Australia
is immensely vulnerable to this this problem. We need to do
something like we are doing here with all the computers and
peripherals that are just being thrown on the scrap heap. It's a
massive environmental and recycling problem"
Mamre International Aid
provide an outlet for these "gone past their use- by- date",
computers, using them to train and educate "the poorest of the
poor, outcasts and lepers" in India.
By improving their education we give them
a dynamic leg-up in life, because
Mamre International Aid believe in the
principle....
"If I give you a fish you will eat
for a day, but if I show you how to fish....you will eat for a
lifetime". .It's an all round triple win situation.
Value adding to the recycled computers,
Mamre International Aid use recycled clothing as a packing
material.
